Coopers Crossing ist ein kleines Nest mitten im australischen Busch. Von hier aus startet der “Royal Flying Doctor Service” seine Rettungsflüge in ein Einsatzgebiet, das in etwa der Größe Englands entspricht. Leiter des Teams, das aus zwei Ärzten, einer Krankenschwester, einem Piloten, einem Funker und einer Sprechstundenhilfe besteht, ist Dr. Tom Callaghan, ein junger ehrgeiziger Mediziner aus Sydney. In der ersten Folge tritt ein Neuzugang seinen Job im Dschungel an: Dr. Chris Randall. Die Einheimischen begegnen der jungen Ärztin erst eimal mit Misstrauen und Skepsis.
Abenteuer, Liebe und Drama. Und das alles inmitten einer traumhaften Landschaft. Hauptdarsteller Andrew McFarlane wurde nach 20 Folgen von Robert Grubb abgelöst. Auch die Location wechselte: Nach 227 Episoden landeten die Flying Doctors zum letzten Mal in Coopers Crossing. In einem Spin-off versuchte das Ärzteteam von Broken Hill vergeblich an den Erfolg ihrer Kollegen aus Neu-Süd-Wales anzuknöpfen.
